Canoo fellow Dierk König presents a compact course about web-based information systems

Basel, 11/9/2009. Dierk König, Prof. Dr. Alonso and  Prof Dr. Kossmann will teach the compact course "Web-based information systems", 3 - 5 February 2010, at the ETH Zurich.

More and more people have access to the Web, be it at home, at work, or from a mobile device. The tremendous success of the Web is due to the fact that it enhances considerably the effectiveness of communication and information acquisition – if both the provider and the user exploit their full potential. The three-day compact course at the ETH Zurich presents the basic technologies of the Internet and Web-based applications.
  • The first day presents Web Services and Service Oriented Architectures (SOA) which form the basis for distributed information systems.
  • The second day presents XML as one of the fundamental technologies for representing, saving, exchanging and processing information.
  • The third day treats Rich Internet Applications (RIA) and the programming of modern graphical user interfaces.

The target audience are IT managers, engineers and consultants. The three course days form a sequence, but they can also be attended individually. Please refer to the pages of the ETH Departement of Computer Science for further information and registration details.

Basel, 9. November 2009. Dierk König bietet zusammen mit Prof. Dr. Alonso and Prof. Dr. Kossmann vom 3. bis 5. Februar 2010 an der ETH Zürich den praxisnahen Kompaktkurs „Web-basierte Informationssysteme“ an.

Praktisch alle Menschen haben Zugang zum „Web“, sei es privat, dienstlich oder auch mobil. Das Web wird damit zunehmend jederzeit für jedermann verfügbar. Der große Erfolg des Webs liegt darin begründet, dass es die Kosten für das Abrufen und Bereitstellen von Information stark reduziert hat. Dieser dreitägige Kurs stellt die grundlegenden Technologien des Web und der Entwicklung von Web-basierten Anwendungen vor.
  • Am ersten Tag werden Web Services und dienstorientierte Softwarearchitekturen (SOA) vorgestellt, die die Grundlage für verteilte Informationssysteme bieten.
  • Am zweiten Tag wird die Programmierung von Datenbank-gestützten Web Services mit Hilfe moderner Web Technologien wie XML, RDF und XPath/XQuery erläutert.
  • Am dritten Tag werden Rich Internet Applications und die Programmierung von modernen graphischen Benutzeroberflächen behandelt.

Der Kurs richtet sich an Personen, die an der Planung, Entwicklung und dem Management von Informationssystemen beteiligt sind oder sich einen Überblick über moderne Benutzeroberflächen verschaffen wollen.
