Basel, 29th June 2009. The established Italian publishing
house Zanichelli has recently released the second edition of its
Italian-German/German-Italian dictionary. They used the text processing
software WMTrans of Canoo for the elaboration of the inflected word
forms in German.
“With WMTrans, Canoo offers the most comprehensive overview
of the morphological characteristics of German", said Enrico Lanfrachi,
Zanichelli's lexicographer in charge. “We have carefully
evaluated different choices. In particular the high quality of the data
has convinced us to employ WMTrans for our dictionary."
The second edition of Zanichelli's Italian-German dictionary has been
completely revised and updated. Useful tools for language learners were
added (collocations, grammatical structures with case information,
special features) and special attention was paid to linguistic
evolutions; e.g. new (compound) words and expressions in the fields of
technological innovations (Fotohandy, simsen), economy (gerechter
Handel, Abgeltungssteuer), and social changes (Patchworkfamilie,
Multikulti). These improvements were developed in collaboration with
the German publishing company Klett-Pons. Canoo's WMTrans was employed
for the representation of the inflected German word forms.
