RIA and AJAX

Rich Internet Application (RIA) - AJAX or non-AJAX-based - are the next generation of web applications. RIA describes a type of client application that offers a richer user interface which is functionally similar to a regular desktop application, but is deployed within a web infrastructure.

There are hundreds of criteria to consider when evaluating RIA and AJAX technologies. So many that it is easy to lose focus and misjudge priorities. In his articles on this subject, Marc Domenig proposes and discusses a decision tree that leads through the evaluation process. It asks for the most distinctive requirements and product features in a top-down sequence, discussing the essential differences between technology options.
