| Applet | Starts the ULCMail sample as an applet. |
| JNLP (Java Web Start) | Starts the ULCMail sample using Java Web Start. |
To test ULCMail using a demo email account:
- Click Login.
Please note: For test purposes, a test email account has been set up, with a couple of sample emails and some folders. This account is intended for test purposes only and will be deleted after usage. Try sending and receiving emails using this test account.
Note: IMAP allows you to easily access your email account from any location, in contrast to POP3 where data is stored on one client computer. If you are at the office, at home or travelling, you can easily login to your email account with access to all messages and folders. All data is stored on the email server and is transferred to the client only if required.
ULCMail benefits
Compare ULCMail with HTML-based webmail applications:
- ULCMail effectively demonstrates how ULC solves an important security concern found in HTML-based webmail applications: ULCMail leaves all messages on the server and does not store any data in a browser cache.
- ULCMail illustrates how ULC minimizes network traffic compared to an HTML-based webmail application.
- ULCMail offers a rich, responsive user interface with drag-and-drop functionality.
ULCMail is deployed as a servlet. The UI Engine is deployed as an applet embedded in a Web page (using the Java Plug-in) or using Java Web Start. The UI Engine connects to the application using HTTP as the underlying transport protocol.
Application Functionality
The ULCMail application enables access to any mail account hosted on an IMAP-enabled email server. The email folders are shown in a tree on the left-hand side. Select a folder to display the message headers in the right pane. Select a message header to display a message in the bottom right pane. Double-click a message header to open a window displaying the message and to access any attachments in the mail. Another window is dedicated to composing new messages. Finally, there is a window that displays search results.
