Installing and Using the ULC Visual Editor

To install the ULC Visual Editor

  • Download and install the required version of UltraLightClient. Get a license key for UltraLightClient.

  • Make sure that you have installed the required Eclipse version. If not, it can be downloaded from http://www.eclipse.org.

  • Get an appropriate license key for the ULC Visual Editor version chosen by you.

  • Install Eclipse Visual Editor and ULC Visual Editor plug-ins using Eclipse's inbuilt mechanism for installation of plug-ins:
    • In Eclipse 3.5, select Help > Install New Software.... In Eclipse 3.4, select Help > Software Updates....

    • Install Eclipse 1.4 plug-in from the update site: http://download.eclipse.org/tools/ve/updates/1.4.

      To check that Eclipse VE has been installed correctly, create a Java Project and try creating a Visual class.

    • Install ULC VE plug-in from the update site: http://update.canoo.com/ulcve.

  • Restart Eclipse and select Help > About Eclipse and you should see the ULC Visual Editor icon.

  • Next, check the feature and plug-ins details and you should see the ULC Visual Editor and Eclipse Visual Editor related features and plugins.

To use ULC Visual Editor with your UltraLightClient projects in Eclipse

  • Add the UltraLightClient libraries to the class path of your UltraLightClient project as described in the online help provided with the ULC Visual Editor.
    Select Help > Help Contents > ULC Visual Editor Help > Using the ULC Visual Editor in a ULC Project.
    The online help includes a tutorial and useful tips on how to use the ULC Visual Editor.

  • When you create a ULC Visual Class for the first time, ULC Visual Editor will bring up a Add ULC Visual Editor License dialog box. Copy the license key you received by email and paste it into the dialog and press Ok. ULC Visual Editor will then validate and install the pasted license in the user home directory.
