Requirements

  • State-of-the-art Internet architecture for global and secure access to product information by multiple users.
  • Sophisticated, yet thin GUI to enable different graphical representations of product information as a network or hierarchy of interrelated items.
  • Rapid deployment and low cost of ownership of the application across locations of a global enterprise.
  • Easy development and maintenance without affecting distribution.
  • Low bandwidth consumption.
  • Follow standards like Java, HTTP, etc.

Architecture

The Optiwise software has a 4-tier architecture. The client tier consists of the ULC UI Engine on the desktop. On the server side, the ULC application acts as a presentation server, the business logic runs on an EJB server, and a database server serves the data.

The multi-tier architecture provides for scalability and configurability. The client side component can be deployed as an applet or as a standalone application. The GUI changes are restricted to the ULC application on the presentation server, independent of the client, enabling ease of maintenance and distribution. Communication between the client tier (UI Engine) and the presentation layer is achieved through HTTP(S).

Key Benefits

  • multi-tier architecture.
  • ease of deployment and distribution through application independent UI Engine.
  • ease of maintenance such that GUI changes affect only the server-side code.
  • low bandwidth with optimized client-server communication.
  • secure and global access through pluggable transport for client-server communication.
  • extensibility of the framework to enable special requirements like graphics.
