Content Management System for Tourism Portal

Tinext, a Swiss software company, developed a portal for touristic information. The portal is currently used by different content providers, among them www.ticino.ch, www.lakesandalps.com, www.scta.ch, www.maggiore.ch, and www.ristoranti.ch.

While the information is publicly delivered in form of an HTML web application, the dedicated content management system (CMS) is realized as a rich internet application using Canoo's UltraLightClient.

The choice of ULC was due to the ability to realize a rich and easy-to-use client application, while maintaining the client thin and not having to reinstall the application on the client at every release. In addition, the server-side model of ULC allows an easier and more natural interaction with DB data and Web Services.

The implemented CMS is used by every local tourist offices in Ticino and some provinces in northern Italy to add new information on cultural heritages, events, special offers. In addition, managers and owners can add and edit their specific content for hotels, restaurants, houses for rent, camping sites, and hostels.

The data managed by the CMS is available in different dedicated formats, besides the format required for the portal, for newspapers and other information providers.
