Online Demonstration of WMTrans Products at Canoo.net
Canoo.net shows how WMTrans products can be integrated into an online application.- Go to to http://www.canoo.net
- To view the integrated functionality of the WMTrans Lemmatizer (determines the base/citation form of a word form and its word category), type an inflected word, e.g.
misst, platziere
The system displays the word's base form (messen, platzieren) and the corresponding word category (V, Adj). In case of verbs, the respective auxiliary verbs (e.g. haben) are given as well.
The entries for words in other Canoo dictionaries can be displayed by clicking on the links appearing next to the base form.
Other examples: platzierte, Krokus, Portemonnaie
WMTrans Inflection Generator
- To view the integrated functionality of the WMTrans Inflection Generator (determines all inflected forms of a word):
Type misst. On the results page, click Inflection to display the inflection table of messen. If you want to understand more about the inflection rule responsible for messen and if you want to view other words that follow the same inflection rules as messen, click Inflection Class which leads you to a text-book style explanation about German inflection. - To view the orthographic features included in all WMTrans products (Deutsche Rechtschreibreform, regional variants, publisher-specific spellings),
click Rechtschreibung or Spelling in the upper right corner of the web page to find out how the various word forms of messen are affected by the spelling reform (Deutsche Rechtschreibreform).
The system displays two word forms of messen, mißt and misst, which are affected by the spelling reform.
Similarly, if you type platzieren in the search field and click Spelling in the results page, you can see that the system distinguishes between three different spellings for platzieren: plazieren (old spelling, no longer valid), platzieren (new spelling), and placieren (spelling as used by the "Neue Zürcher Zeitung"). - To view the integrated functionality of the WMTrans Word Formation Analyzer/Generator (decomposes complex words into their basic lexical units; shows the decomposition graphically by means of a derivation tree, shows all words that can be derived / composed further), type a complex compounded or derived word like:
Stirnhöhle
Click Wortbildung or Word formation.
The system shows the decomposition into lexical units like hohl, Höhle and Stirne and also displays the word formation rule "Komposition Nomen+Nomen, ohne Fugenelement" which is responsible for the construction of the compound word. Click the rule to see a textbook-style explanation of this word formation rule.
Additionally, all words that can be further derived from Stirnhöhle are shown, i.e. Stirnhöhlenentzündung, Stirnhöhlenkatarr and Stirnhöhlenvereiterung.
The decomposition of these complex words is demonstrated by a tree-like structure. - To view the integrated functionality of the WMTrans Unknown Word Analyzer (gives a full morphosyntactic analysis of each input word form; additionally decomposes unknown lexical words into known lexical entities), type a complex compounded or derived word, e.g. Alpendurchquerungstunnel, zerlachen and get a possible analysis of the word using the word formation rule "Derivation, Verb zu Verb, Präfigierung".
